TUCSON, Arizona — Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of NBC’s Today show, made a heartfelt appeal this past Sunday to the person believed to be holding her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, urging them to show mercy and end her ordeal. The emotional message was shared in a video on social media as the search for Nancy enters its third week without a confirmed resolution. (

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her home in the Catalina Foothills community near Tucson on January 31, after she failed to appear for a scheduled church gathering. Authorities, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, believe she was taken against her will, and the investigation remains ongoing with no publicly identified suspects.

In the video message posted Sunday night, Guthrie voiced her family’s anguish and enduring hope. “It’s been two weeks since our mom was taken,” she said, speaking directly to whoever might be holding her mother or those who know her whereabouts. “We still have hope… you’re not lost or alone. It’s never too late to do the right thing.” Her plea underscored the family’s belief in the basic goodness of people and their fervent wish for Nancy’s safe return. 

Authorities have been combing for clues in the case, including analyzing surveillance footage that shows a masked individual at the Guthrie residence shortly before Nancy’s disappearance. Investigators also recovered a glove containing DNA near the property that is being tested in hopes of identifying a potential suspect. Despite these efforts and thousands of tips received so far, law enforcement has not announced any arrests or confirmed leads that explain Nancy’s location. (

The widespread attention to the case has drawn national concern, with supporters sharing information and prayers on social media while officials continue to urge anyone with knowledge of the disappearance to come forward.
