Barack Obama Jokes About Aliens but Rekindles America’s UFO Debate

WASHINGTON — Former U.S. president Barack Obama has once again stirred curiosity about extraterrestrial life, blending humor and candor while addressing one of the country’s most enduring conspiracy theories.

Speaking during a recent public conversation, Obama smiled when asked about aliens and unidentified flying objects. “Yes, they’re real,” he said jokingly, before quickly adding that he had never personally seen extraterrestrials or secret evidence of alien visits to Earth.

His remarks, delivered in a lighthearted tone, nevertheless reignited discussion online, where UFO theories and speculation about government knowledge of extraterrestrial life remain popular topics. Obama has previously acknowledged that the government has recorded footage of unexplained aerial phenomena, but he has consistently stopped short of suggesting alien origins.

Experts note that public fascination with UFOs has grown in recent years as declassified military videos and congressional hearings have examined what officials now often call “unidentified anomalous phenomena” (UAP). Still, scientists emphasize that unexplained does not necessarily mean extraterrestrial, and many sightings ultimately have earthly explanations.

Obama’s latest comments appeared aimed more at humor than revelation, yet they reflect how deeply the subject resonates in American culture. Polls have shown that a significant share of Americans believe intelligent life could exist beyond Earth, even if definitive proof remains elusive.

For now, the former president’s playful answer seems to have achieved two things at once: drawing laughs and keeping the mystery alive. As interest in space and potential life beyond Earth continues, the debate over what’s out there — and what governments know — is unlikely to fade anytime soon.
