A military aircraft in Bolivia crashed into a roadway Tuesday while attempting to land in the city of El Alto, the country’s second most populous urban center, authorities said.
The aircraft, identified as a Hércules operated by the Bolivian Air Force, reportedly encountered difficulties during its landing approach before striking a road near the airport. Witnesses said the plane was flying at low altitude when it appeared to lose stability and collided with the ground, sending up a large plume of smoke visible across parts of the city.
Emergency crews, firefighters, and military personnel quickly responded to the scene, securing the area and launching initial rescue and assessment operations. Authorities cordoned off surrounding streets as investigators began examining the wreckage.

As of now, officials have not confirmed any fatalities or injuries, and no details have been released regarding the possible cause of the crash. Air Force representatives stated that a formal investigation has been opened to determine what led to the failed landing attempt.
El Alto, situated at more than 13,000 feet above sea level, presents challenging flight conditions due to its high altitude and rapidly changing weather patterns, factors that can complicate takeoff and landing procedures.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates in the coming hours as more information becomes available about the crew and the circumstances surrounding the accident.
