Caracas, February 2, 2026 — In a significant step in the reconfiguration of relations between Venezuela and the United States, the president in charge of the country, Delcy Rodríguez, appointed this Monday the diplomat Félix Plasencia as the new permanent representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United States.
The decision was officially announced by the Minister of Communication, Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela, and confirmed by Foreign Minister Yván Gil after a meeting at the Miraflores Palace with the American chargé d'affaires, Laura Dogu, who recently arrived in Caracas to relaunch her country's diplomatic mission after seven years without an operational embassy in Venezuela.

Gil explained that Plasencia and his team will soon travel to the United States to assume their duties and advance a bilateral agenda focused on cooperation, energy, political and economic issues of common interest.
This appointment occurs in the context of a process of reopening ties between Caracas and Washington, broken since 2019, when diplomatic relations were suspended amid political tensions.
