Iran intensifies repression: property seizures and persecution of activists follow protests.

MINNEAPOLIS (IPU NEWS)— Iranian authorities have intensified their crackdown on activists and participants in anti-government protests, with arrests, media closures, and, more recently, the confiscation of assets and increased surveillance of victims' families, according to human rights organizations and press reports.

The actions are part of a broader campaign to stifle any form of dissent following the protests that rocked the country in recent months. Activists and lawyers consulted indicate that authorities have initiated legal proceedings to seize property, freeze bank accounts, and restrict the economic activity of individuals linked to the protests.

### Confiscations and Economic Pressure

According to international human rights organizations, Iranian courts have issued orders to confiscate homes, vehicles, and other assets of protesters or individuals accused of supporting the protests. In some cases, relatives of detainees have also reportedly been subjected to financial or administrative pressure.

Civil rights advocates maintain that these measures aim to deter participation in future protests and punish those who continue opposition activities.

"This is a strategy to weaken support networks and send a warning message to society," said an Iranian activist in exile who requested anonymity for security reasons.

### Arrests and Media Closures

Authorities have also continued to arrest activists, journalists, and social media users accused of spreading information about the protests or criticizing the government. Some independent media outlets have been shut down or subjected to severe restrictions.

Press freedom groups denounce that access to information within the country has become increasingly limited, with internet blockages and reinforced digital surveillance.

### Surveillance of Victims' Families

Human rights organizations affirm that relatives of people killed or detained during the protests have been subjected to interrogations, police surveillance, and pressure to prevent public acts of commemoration. According to these reports, authorities are seeking to prevent the cases from becoming symbols of resistance or generating new protests.

### Government Response

Iranian officials have defended the measures as necessary to preserve public order and national security. The government maintains that some protests escalated into violence and that the legal actions are directed against individuals accused of specific crimes.

However, government critics and international organizations have expressed concern about the use of economic and judicial sanctions against protesters and their families.

### International Concern

Western governments and international organizations have condemned the crackdown and called on Iran to respect human rights and freedom of expression. Some countries have imposed sanctions on Iranian officials in response to the arrests and the use of force against protesters.

Analysts note that the situation remains volatile and that internal and external pressure on the Iranian government could increase if the repressive measures continue.

Despite the intensified surveillance and sanctions, exiled activists assert that the protest movement maintains support networks inside and outside the country, while the government attempts to consolidate control and prevent further demonstrations.
