King Charles III Expresses Willingness to Cooperate with Police Following Prince Andrew's Link to the Epstein Case

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Monday that King Charles III is willing to cooperate with police authorities after renewed scrutiny of his brother, Prince Andrew's, relationship with American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of sexual offenses and child trafficking.

In a brief statement sent to the media, the British Royal Household indicated that if Thames Valley Police require information or assistance, the institution will cooperate fully. “If Thames Valley Police contact us, we are prepared to offer them our support, as would be expected,” the official message reads.

The statement comes at a particularly delicate time for the British monarchy, which for years has been trying to distance itself from the Duke of York, who was removed from public life after the controversy generated by his friendship with Epstein and the accusations leveled against him. Although Prince Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing, his relationship with the financier—who was found dead in prison in 2019—has severely damaged the institution's image.

Charles III, who ascended the throne with the implicit promise of modernizing and strengthening the monarchy's credibility, seems determined to mark a turning point in the handling of this type of crisis. Sources close to the royal family emphasize that the monarch wants to make it clear that the Crown will not interfere in any investigation and will act transparently within legal limits.

Thames Valley Police have been mentioned on several occasions as the competent authority to re-examine possible British connections to the Epstein case, although so far they have not announced the formal opening of new proceedings directly related to Prince Andrew. Nevertheless, the Buckingham Palace statement anticipates a stance of proactive cooperation aimed at avoiding accusations of opacity or preferential treatment.

Since the scandal broke, the Duke of York has lost his honorary military titles and has ceased to officially represent the Crown. Furthermore, in 2022, he reached an out-of-court settlement with Virginia Giuffre, one of the women who accused him of sexual abuse when she was a minor, without admitting guilt.

King Charles III's new stance reinforces the strategy of institutional distancing and responds to growing public and media pressure for the British monarchy to be more transparent and accountable. In a context of constant scrutiny, the Royal Family seems aware that any ambiguity could have lasting consequences for its legitimacy.
